Tips On Writing A Eulogy

Print this page

There is no right or wrong way to write a eulogy, each eulogy is as unique as the person being remembered.  In essence you are telling your story about a loved one.

The following should help you start your eulogy:

·        Think of the major moments in their life, whether it was at home, or work, with others or alone

·        Think of the small characteristics that made them unique

·        When were they at their best, what made them happy?

·        What did you and others love or admire about them?

·        What will you and others miss most about them?

General tips on writing and delivering eulogies:

·        Be honest and focus on the person’s positive qualities

·        Keep it brief and concise; lengthy eulogies often wander and lose impact

·        Humor is acceptable, if it fits the personality of the deceased

·        Put the eulogy on paper, at least in outline form, and write in large letters

First just write down your unrelated thoughts, then organize them into a draft, then refine into your final outline.
